The Waning Gibbous: Embracing Nature’s Flow

The Waning Gibbous: Embracing Nature’s Flow

As the Waning Gibbous graces us, it’s the perfect time to clear your space and reclaim your energy. Smudging is a gentle, ancient ritual that helps restore balance and create a harmonious flow in your environment. It’s your invitation to release what no longer serves you and align with your highest self, emerging more empowered and centered than ever.

For me, this season also calls for nourishment from the inside out. I’ll be savoring healing foods and herbs like dark leafy greens, sprouted foods, sauerkraut, chestnuts, asparagus, bitter melon, celery, zucchini, dandelion greens, lemon, and burdock root—each one rich in nature’s wisdom to support vitality and renewal.

The Waning Gibbous season is all about embracing the natural rhythm of life. It’s a time to flow with the energy of release and reflection, just like the moon gently winding down. As the days shorten and the moon wanes, it reminds us to pause, find balance, and let go of what no longer serves us, making space for new growth.

What is it?

The Waning Gibbous Phase is an intermediate phase in the lunar cycle where the moon is illuminated by more than half but less than the full moon.

  • Duration:

It lasts approximately one-quarter of a synodic month, which is about 7.38 days.

  • Timing:

It follows the full moon and precedes the third quarter (or last quarter) moon.

  • Waning:

"Waning" means the moon is getting smaller in its illuminated appearance, moving towards the new moon.

  • Rise and Set times:

With some exceptions, the Waning Gibbous Moon rises after sunset but before midnight and doesn't set until after sunrise.

It’s nature’s own circadian rhythm in action—simple, restorative, and aligned with the effortless flow of the seasons.

Embrace this season as an opportunity to reset, flow with nature’s rhythms, and let ancient remedies guide you toward a more balanced and empowered you.
